Applied Project Part 4

Q Instructions Self assess using the UMGC grading rubrics for all parts of the Applied final Project and identify 3 areas you can improve with your work as you move forward. Explain in detail how you will improve. Note your self assessment DOES NOT = your grade. There are many areas we can strengthen and build on when we honestly look at our own work. I expect to see more GOOD and FAIR areas that Excellent. We can't grow unless we make room. The Applied Final Project will be broken down to 4 parts: • Part 1: Individual proposal: due at the end of Week 3 (15 points, 4%) • Part 2: Annotated bibliography: due at the end of Week 4 (20 points, 5%) • Part 3: Discussion Presentation: project due at the end of Week 7; discussion about projects during Week 8 (80 points, 19%) • Part 4: Individual self assess Score: due at the end of Week 7 (10 points, 2%) Part 1: Proposal (15 points, 4%) In Week 3 submit one proposal consisting or a one page abstract, summary or outline of your Project idea. 1. First, your proposal should identify the community you are targeting. One way to find a community is to use information gathered from the 2010 Census that presents a profile of a community (http://www.census.gov/2010census/data/). For example, use the demographic profile of your community to justify the need for a domestic violence awareness project. The Census is only intended to help narrow down a community. 2. Once you identify a community, identify the type of domestic violence (e.g. elder abuse, bullying, child abuse, stalking, etc.) you will address in your project. For example, if your community is the aging veteran population (between the ages of 65 to 75) in the East Coast who live in a nursing home, the a type of domestic violence you might be interested in is elderly abuse with a specialization in financial abuse. 3. Lastly, you will identify a specific activity, event, or “deliverable” (brochure, pamphlet, handbook, poster, presentation, writing and performing a song using online media, etc.) that will promote awareness of domestic violence and advocate for its victims. Be creative! You will be creating this so make sure it is a feasible endeavor. For example, if your community is the female adolescent group (between the ages of 16 to 19) in NYC school system, the type of domestic violence you might be interested in is child abuse and a specific activity can be creating a Facebook page that promotes awareness, resources, and advocacy. Scoring of proposal: Excellent Good Fair Poor Missing or Not Acceptable Target community identified Target community is clearly identified and information and a profile of the community using census data is provided. (5 points) Target community is clearly identified and information and a profile of the community using census data is provided, with minor omissions (4 points) Target community is clearly identified and information and a profile of the community using census data is provided, with major omissions (3 points) Target community is identified but supportive census information is not provided. (4 points) No rationale provided that links the need for domestic violence awareness project to the target community. Purpose of the project is not clear (0 points) Part 2: Annotated Bibliography (20 points, 5%) Annotated bibliographies provide you with the opportunity to cite, summarize, and compare and contrast resources you will use in a project. You will cite each resource in APA style, write an approximately 150-word description that summarizes the central theme and scope of the resource, and compare and contrast it with other resources. For more information on annotated bibliographies, consult UMGC’s How to Write an Annotated Bibliography https://sites.umgc.edu/library/libhow/bibliography_tutorial.cfm For this project, you are to identify at least 10 original sources of research from scholarly sources. At least 3-4 of your sources must have been published within the past 3 years. One annotated bibliography for each group is required. Depending on the assignment, the annotated bibliography may serve a number of purposes, including but not limited to reviewing the literature on a particular subject, illustrating the quality of research you have done, providing examples of the types of resources available, describing other items on a topic that may be of interest to the reader, and/or exploring the subject for further research. Annotated Bibliography, specifically the following critical elements must be addressed: • Summarize the central theme of the resource. • Include a paragraph in which you do the following: o Evaluate the author’s authority or background. o Explain how this resource will work in conjunction with other cited works to illuminate the topic of interest. The source summarized and the main argument is clearly stated. Some details are included. The main argument of the source is not stated or not clear or inaccurately stated. No details are given or too many details are given. Sources are not effectively summarized. Analysis of Sources Annotation concisely discusses several significant aspects of the methodology, disciplinary perspective, types of evidence or audience of the source. Its strengths or weaknesses are mentioned and how it might be useful or limited Annotation discusses at least one significant aspect of the methodology, disciplinary perspective, types of evidence or audience of the source. Its strengths or weaknesses are mentioned and how it might be useful or limited. Annotation fails to mention an important aspect of the source's methods, discipline etc. and/or does not in any way assess its quality or usefulness. There is no analysis of the sources. It contains at least one demonstrably useful form of information for a scholarly investigation of the topic. The sources lacks credibility or is not substantial enough to be useful to a scholarly investigation of the topic. The sources are not reliable, credible, or substantial. Style and Technical correctness: paragraphs, etc Elements of the annotation are smoothly integrated so it reads as a coherent whole. There is obvious effort to integrate the elements of the annotation. There are some minor technical errors. There are a number of technical errors that interfere with the paper's clarity and coherence. There are serious errors. The paper is very difficult to read and lacks logic and organization. Part 3: Discussion Presentation (90 points, 19%) Now that you have the proposal and the annotated bibliographies, you must complete the project. Again, devise a specific activity, event, or “deliverable” (brochure, pamphlet, handbook, poster, presentation, writing and performing a song using online media, etc.) that will promote awareness of domestic violence and advocate for its victims. Be creative! All projects are due at the end of Week 7 & posted in the discussion area. You will present your projects to the class during Week 8 by posting it. You are expected to comment on all of the other presentations and in turn, respond back to the comments of your classmates regarding your own presentation. In preparing your project, pay attention to the rubric below. Scoring of presentation: Category Excellent Good Fair Poor Presentation (20 points) Interesting presentation that holds audience attention. Writing Guidelines: This report should demonstrate that you • read the article closely. • are considering the article from the perspective of Women’s Studies. • can write an organized, clear, detailed, and properly cited report . Use APA Style to format the report and all citations (in-text and in the references list). Here are some links to resources which cover the APA format: • APA Style Guide: https://apastyle.apa.org/ • UMGC Library Citing and Writing site: https://sites.umgc.edu/library/libhow/gethelp-citing.cfm While I am happy to answer questions about the assignment, I encourage you to make use of UMGC’s Effective Writing Center if you’d like detailed writing help or another set of eyes to look at your paper before you turn it in. The EWC will require a few days to review a draft, so you will need to finish the paper early if you want to submit it to them.

First of all, I convey my gratitude for the course and the assignment “Applied Project”. I enjoyed completing this assignment and from these assignments, I come to know many things. The first part of the assignment is the “Individual Proposal”, in this proposal we focused on the area of the community about which we discuss. In this project, we discuss the black women of New York who suffered from intimate partner violence. The next part of the assignment is “Annotated Bibliography” here we deal with scholarly articles, peer-reviewed articles related to our project, and the final paper. According to the grading from the professor, I got full marks in each part of the project.
